Heat and Feet

Posted by karmki

With the weather in much of the country at record highs, it’s not always easy to select footwear that’s both flattering and scorching temperature ready.  Sure you can go with a flip flop, but as cool as they are temperature wise, they are not the most fashionable footwear. and for some, myself included, flip flops are strictly beach or fresh from a pedicure attire!

But don’t sweat it … there are many options that will keep your feet AND your look very cool.

1) the wedge: there’s nothing like a great summer wedge. and there are so many available with different adornments and embellishments that make them really stand out!

My favs at the moment:

Christian Louboutin Praia – the height on this wedge is just insane! great for weekend outfits of sundresses and shorts, but also can update a casual office look of a crisp button down shirt with and ankle length pant.   Available at Saks, Barneys, and Christian Louboutin.

Various brands at Target – I’ve picked up a couple of great wedges from Target this season. One was the Cynthia Vincent for Target brown leather wedge with gold buckles. Also, now that summer items are on sale, there are great deals to be had. A quick run through of my local Target turned up several pairs of Xhilaration wedges in brown faux leather with flowers and stud detail on the vamp. At $12 a great pair to toss in your bag to wear at the beach or at your town’s summer festival!

 2) the clog: this is truly a love it or  hate it style, but there is truly something for everyone if you look for clog inspired details like studs or wooden heels. these do tend to be a bit more casual, but can also anchor a night time look by adding a bit of edge to a dress or skirt.  Here’s another great find from Target – it’s not technically a wedge, but with the chunky, wooden heel, it’s a bit more wearable! these shoes may not last for several summers, but at this price point it’s a great way to try out this trend for a season!

Vera Wang Lavender Labelhas a few great clog sandals as well. I’m especially loving this black pair. Yes, they are a bit heavy.  But just think how great they’ll look right now with a bold, printed dress and how adding a pair of tights a few months from now will turn them into a chic, open toed bootie! I have a similar pair from a few seasons ago, and I wear them so much more than I could have imagined.

 3) the ballet flat – simple, comfortable, easy to kick off! and with a few peep-toe options, you can still show off your pretty pedicure.   The ballet flat is my go to for travel, easy to slip on and off through security lines or just to kick off in the car during a road trip.

I think flats are at their best in a neutral and metallic hues. This sparkly Miu Miu flat will go will go with everything and add just a touch of rocker chic!

And how comfy and classic is this black Prada flat?

And this Vera Wang is pure charm with both a peep-toe and embellishment!

4) the gladiator– althought, I’m personally not a fan, I know there are many women out there who can and do rock this look!   Maybe this slight wedged gladiator sandal by Steve Madden with a sundress or a tank and a pair of cut off denim shorts?

I’m a big fan of Joie shoes, and these are no exception. Can see these with a cuffed jeans or with a cute minidress.

Whether you go with a wedge, flat or clog … stay cool and cute in the heat! and enjoy the weather.   We will be talking about fabulous fall boots soon enough.
